Choosing the Right Flooring for Every Room

Flooring is one of the biggest investments in a renovation, and it's also one of the hardest to change your mind about later. The right choice depends less on what's trendy and more on how each room actually lives — moisture, foot traffic, kids, pets, and budget all matter.

Living rooms and bedrooms: This is where hardwood and quality laminate shine. Solid hardwood is the premium option — it can be sanded and refinished for decades — while modern laminate gives you the wood look at a friendlier price with excellent scratch resistance. Both feel warm underfoot and suit almost any style.

Kitchens and entryways: These rooms demand water resistance and durability. Luxury vinyl plank (LVP) has become the go-to for good reason: it's fully waterproof, tough against dropped pans and muddy boots, and today's products look remarkably like real wood. Tile is the other strong choice — nearly indestructible, though harder and colder underfoot.

Bathrooms: Tile remains king here, full stop. Porcelain and ceramic handle standing water, humidity, and decades of use. If you want a warmer feel, vinyl is the only wood-look option we'd recommend in a full bathroom — never laminate or hardwood, which will swell and fail.

Basements: Concrete slabs bring moisture and temperature swings, so choose materials that tolerate both. Vinyl plank and tile handle basement conditions best. If you install any floating floor below grade, a proper moisture barrier and subfloor preparation are non-negotiable.

Whatever you choose, the subfloor decides the outcome. Squeaks, dips, and cracks telegraph through even the best flooring if the surface underneath isn't flat and sound. That's where professional installation earns its keep. Thinking about new floors? We'll measure, assess your subfloor, and give you a straight answer on what each option would cost for your home.
